Two youngsters, aged 16 and 18, who allegedly hijacked a taxi driver in the Inanda area, appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court, recently.
It is alleged that on January 13, 2019 at about 8:25pm, an e-hailing taxi driver received a request trip from Musa Dladla to Inanda area.
Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbhele said he proceeded to the mentioned area where he noticed two men, who flagged him down.

“The driver picked them up as they requested him to do so. One passenger sat in the front seat while the second passenger sat in the back seat,” she added.
While he was driving to Inanda, he was allegedly pointed with a firearm by the accused, who was at the back. He was ordered to drive them to Lindelani area and not to Inanda as they requested.
“As they were driving towards Lindelani, the driver spotted a police patrol van and stopped them. The driver informed the police officers of what happened and the officers searched the suspects,” she continued.

They found a firearm on one of the accused and four rounds of ammunition on the other.
Both accused were arrested and charged with hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The case was postponed until January 21 and the accused were remanded in custody.
