Media statement: Anti Gang Unit successes

Kensington CPF welcomes the success made by the Anti Gang Unit and we say AMMUNITION, FIRE ARMS & DRUGS OFF FACTRETON/KENSINGTON STREETS

The Anti Gang Unit upheld the mission of the SAPS by preventing and combating crime that threaten the safety and security of the Factreton/Kensington community; when they made 3 significant arrests.
On Wednesday 29 May 2019 at about 16:05 a 23 year old male was arrested for dealing in drugs in Wellesley street Factreton, he was found in possession with a few packets of tik and cash, while members of the Anti Gang Unit was doing stop and search duties in the area. Once charged the suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate court, where bail will be opposed.
On the same day at about 17:00 responsive & effective policing was displayed by the same group of police officials whilst on patrol; when a 22 year old male tried to evade arrest by running into a nearby yard in Waarnemer Square, Factreton when he spotted the police. Members gave chase, saw him throw down a bag & caught him before trying to scale a wall in the yard. The bag contained mandrax tablets, tik & cash. The suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs & once charged will appear in Cape Town Magistrates Court, where bail will be opposed.
Once again on the same day at about 18:15 partnership policing yielded a huge success when large amounts of ammunition and drugs as well as licenced firearms was seized at a house in 18th Avenue Factreton, subsequently to information exchanged about drugs and ammunition being held on the premises for a gang. Members of the Anti Gang Unit then activated a multi disciplinary action drill and upon searching the premises found a 35 year old female to be in possession of a large amount of live ammunition and drugs, mandrax, packets of tik as well as rounds of various ammunition like ak47, R5 pistol and rifle an amount of 1370 magazines was seized. The suspect was arrested for possession of ammunition and drugs. The legal firearms confiscated will be tested to ascertain if it could be linked to any of the recent shootings in the area or in commission of a crime. Once charged the suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate court where bail will be opposed. This case will be investigated by the Anti Gang Unit Detective Branch.
The Kensington CPF, Anti Gang Unit & SAPS would like to thank the community for assisting in combating crime in making Kensington/Factreton a safe & secure area. Where our children should walk to school, play in the parks freely and the rest of our residents should feel safe in this community.

The end
Yours in safety
