Hirsch’s Umhlanga recently hosted their monthly business networking gathering with guest speaker, Glade Slade, CEO of Iconverse, in attendance.
Slade trained through the Durban Speech Academy and after leaving the academy, performed on stage for a couple of years, before moving into radio as a presenter and newsreader on both the former Radio Port Natal and the English Service.
She also spent some time on television in Johannesburg, working on a variety of programmes such as Special Assignment, children’s programmes and the first live variety programme, Sunbeams and Cucumbers.

In between two stints at the SABC, she spent seven years working at a newspaper as well as some time in the advertising industry.
The ability to speak well can enhance your career, clinch a sale or sell a point of view. Glenda now spends her time coaching and training people in all aspects of effective communication.
She echoed the sentiments that it is a known fact: people first have to buy you – before they begin to buy your product, your ideas, your information or instructions.
“Developing a confident voice, a warm rapport with people and using the correct body language will help you to ‘sell’ yourself first,” she added.
