The One City, One Books is a PRC initiative held in an effort to promote reading and literacy among citizens in the municipality.
The objectives are to promote reading of the same book within the city for a specified period. Recently, district one, two and three libraries department hosted a fun walk with the aim of raising awareness.
The aim was also to instill the culture of reading in the community and to promote a healthy lifestyle while having fun.

The fun walk was held at the Outspan Grounds in Tongaat and included the current theme for One City, One Book – Reclaiming the Soil by Rosie Motene. The fun run was well-received with many community members, PRC staff and fitness clubs participating in the walk.
Promoting local authors provides an opportunity for them to showcase their work and gives them exposure to a wide audience.
The author engaged the audience with highlights of the book after the walk. Winners from different categories received goodie bags and medals.
