On the day, the victims, Siyabonga Mthembu (28) and another 23-year-old man were on their way home when they were ambushed by a group of men, who assaulted them with bush knives and wooden sticks.
The victims attempted to run away, however, they were caught at a nearby homestead and the ordeal continued.
Mthembu succumbed to his injuries at the scene while the 23-year-old victim was rushed to hospital.
“Cases of murder and attempted murder were opened by Nsuze police for investigation. Detectives worked around the clock to trace the suspects. Three suspects were arrested on November 20 while the remaining two suspects were arrested on November 22,” she said.
